Kate Walsh Had a Great 2007

Tuna tartar shaped like a butterfly. That’s romantic. Right?

Sounds pretty romantic to me. But hey - I have a feeling anything would be romantic with Kate Walsh and her cute hubby Alex Young involved.

Anywho, Kate tells TV Guide that her hubby proposed to her over a dish of tuna tartar. Since she digs butterflies, he also arranged to have it shaped like a butterfly.

butterfly.jpg

Awww…..

She also praised the benefits of being slightly older. Especially when it comes to fame, saying:

“If this all had happened to me when I was 25, I would have been shaving my head and driving over people’s feet!”

Now, she wouldn’t happen to be talking about everybody’s favorite train wreck Britney Spears, would she?

brit_limo.jpg

brit_shave.jpg

brit_cry.jpg

brit_stage.jpg

Naw, that can’t be it.

Seriously, Kate Walsh’s sense of humor is so awesome. That’s one reason she stood out on the Grey’s Anatomy set. She seems to take everything in stride and doesn’t let anything rattle her. Love that. Of course being older helps with that as well.

Speaking of Kate’s wedding, her dress is listed as second best of the year on LoveTripper. Katherine Heigl’s is third. I know those two are buds, but I really can’t see Kate and Kat actually hanging together. Ya know? Kate seems fun and Katherine seems…. what’s the word…. annoying.

Anyways, Kate’s Cadillac commercial is also voted sexiest of 2007. Kate is having THE YEAR OF ALL YEARS, what with the new hubby, new show, new commercial… what can be next? New baby?

No. Not yet anyway.

She did help inspire the name “Addison” as one of the most popular of 2007. (Along with Aidan and Ava.) I can’t help noticing the name “Izzy” isn’t one of the more popular ones. Hmm… wonder why?

Kate and Tim and Steven and Tyne

Friday, December 28th, 2007

steven.jpg

A little six degrees of separation thang with the folks from Private Practice.

Hollywood is so incestuous, isn’t it?

timd.jpg

Anyways, I was a huge fan of Tim Daly’s old show Eyes, and I remembered a hot redheaded chick that guest-starred as Kendall Judd, Daly’s on-screen wife for a few episodes. If you’ll remember, she came back into town and he thought her place was bugged, so he had to basically protect and watch out for her. (Sparking old romantic feelings, natch.)

In looking through YouTubeVille I finally found who it was: Kate Walsh.

The two of them definitely had chemistry on Eyes as well. See for yourself, here’s part one of Kate’s episode:

And part two:

Kate Walsh also guest-starred on an episode of Steven Weber’s ill-fated show Cursed (also titled The Weber Show at one point). She played “Stace” in the episode titled, “And Then He Had to Give a Thumbs Up.”

Steven Weber, of course, starred in the awesome show Wings with none other than Tim Daly. Here’s a shot of them from back in the day. Thomas Haden Church is also with them.

wings stars_1.jpg

And the whole cast:

wings.jpg

Look how young they all look! And so very cute.

The connection doesn’t end there. Since we left off with Tim Daly, let’s pick up with his stint on Judging Amy. I’ve blogged about Amy Brenneman working with Tim’s sister Tyne Daly on Judging Amy, but Tim himself also guest starred on that show as well. He played a jerky lawyer named Monty Fisher in an episode entitled “Shock and Awe.” Someone he’s defending even hits him. Check out the great busted up nose here, as he happens to be standing with his real life sister Tyne.

tim.jpg

I’ll be curious to see if any of the past stars of Wings or Judging Amy now show up on Private Practice.

Kate Walsh Goes to a Wedding and Audra McDonald Sings

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

kate_1.jpg

What are the Private Practice stars doing over the holidays?

Kate Walsh started hers by attending Katherine Heigl’s wedding to kat_and_josh.jpgJosh Kelley[/tag]. The Grey’s girl and her musical beau tied the knot December 23rd in Utah. (Heigl is pictured with Kelley here at the Troubador in L.A. back in October.)

The wedding was apparently low-key, with only a few celebs in attendance. Besides Walsh, T.R. Knight and Sandra Oh, and Justin Chambers were in attendance. According to OK! Magazine, the bride dashed down the aisle in an Oscar de la Renta gown. White, of course. The two lovebirds also wrote their own vows. Awwww……

Heigl met Kelley on the set of his video “Only You” where she played the object of his affection. Here’s a peak for all you folks that haven’t seen it yet:

Tip for all aspiring musicians: If there’s a particular girl you’’e digging, just invite her to do a music video. No actress can resist this, and when you sing to her it automatically makes her fall for you.

Wonder if our girl Kate gave Kat any tips on marriage? How to have your photograph snapped at the grocery store, perhaps? Or how to smooch in public with your new hubby?

kate_alex_smootch.jpg

While Kate attends weddings and helps promote Private Practice elsewhere in the world, Audra McDonald is working on Broadway projects and waiting for the writers strike to end so she can return to work at Private Practice.

McDonald is quite a talented Broadway actress, and if you haven’t had a chance to see her yet, check out this clip from the Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny where she actually sings opera.

Amazing.

Playbill reports that McDonald will once again reprise her role in A Raisin in the Sun (that’s the one she did with P.Diddy) on February 25. This one will be for TV. Where will it air? ABC… of course.

Kate Walsh’s Snide Ad

Friday, December 21st, 2007

kate_car.jpg

Found an interesting article about today’s advertising climate and it’s use of a snide or sarcastic attitude to sell cars. I was even more surprised to see that Kate Walsh’s Cadillac commercial was listed as part of the “new advertising snide.”

According to SFGate.com:

Here we get to the crux of advertising snide; communicating that you are far too hip to work up a spit to sell your product; that like most endeavors these days, the ad is hardly worth the effort. “No,” actress Kate Walsh intones in a bored, singsong voice in an ad for Cadillac, “the question isn’t whether you car has features like a 40-gig hard drive, it isn’t about sun roofs, Sapelli wood accents, or any of that.” “No,” she drones, dismissing features that were until recently the essence of auto lux, “the real question is when you turn your car on, does it return the favor?”

Here’s the thing: I actually kind of like that commercial.

I like the fact that a hot, hip, and gorgeous 40-something female is the one selling the car. The fact that she’s “sarcastic” in the ad makes sense, especially if you think of her Private Practice character, Addison.

After all, if she’s able to afford a Cadillac, she’s obviously successful and has probably worked hard to get that success. More than that, I think other successful females will relate to her attitude. (Hence, they’ll be more willing to buy the car, too.)

Here’s the commercial, for those of you who haven’t seen it:

What do you think? Does this type of advertising work?

Kate Walsh in Madrid

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

kate_spain.jpg

What’s a girl to do when she finds herself out of work for the time being? Say… because of a writer’s strike… or something hypothetical like that? Fly to Spain, of course. At least, that’s what Kate Walsh did this week, to promote Private Practice in the beautiful city of Madrid. She attended a special screening at Captiol Cinema on Monday.

Here’s a clip from her appearance:

kate_spain_white.jpgDid you catch her new look? Short bangs and all? Not sure I dig this, I like Addison so much better when she’s got the gorgeous red hair flying all over. Then again, Walsh is being herself right now… and not Addy. (I knew what you guys were thinking…)

I do think her dress is fabulous, though. Wonder if her cute hubby came along for the trip?

On another writer’s strike related note, Kate Walsh pulled out of announcing the SAG awards nominations this morning. Can’t cross that picket line, folks! She did the right thing, of course, but what a bummer.

Kate Walsh Best of 2007, But Annoying?

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

kate_walsh_tv_guide.jpg

Have you seen Kate Walsh on the cover of this week’s TV Guide? It’s for the “Best of 2007” issue.

Speaking of the best of the year, there’s a survey on the PopSugar website that asks about the most annoying celebrities of the year. I was surprised to see our dear Ms. Walsh as part of the survey. (Kate had only 2% of the votes at the time of this writing.)

But seriously, do we really think lovely, smart, intelligent Kate Walsh should be in the same league as Rosie O’Donnell, Pam Anderson, or Michael Lohan? Especially when it comes to the dubious honor of being annoying? Hardly. (Katherine Heigl, on the other hand…)

heigl_big_mouth.jpg

Which reminds me, have you seen this clip with both Kate and Katherine from David Spade’s Showbig Show? Obviously Kate is mackin’ for the cameras, while Katherine’s clips are from Grey’s. The combination of the two makes it absolutely hilarious.

When Celebs Have Extra Time

Monday, December 10th, 2007

jimmy_carter.jpg

On Friday talks for the writer’s strike came to a halt once again. Is it too much to ask that as an early Christmas present they could at least keep at it? Talks between the writers and the big exec’s started up November 26th and once again went to pieces over the income from the Internet point.

We all want the strike to end, for various reasons… we disklike reruns… we have some new shows that have just gotten off the ground (Private Practice, Pushing Daisies)… we think strikes of any type should be mediated by Jimmy Carter so they can be resolved tout de suite.

And here’s another reason for the writer’s to end the strike: Celebrities will have more time on their hands to campaign for their favorite presidential candidates.

Case in point:

Jessica Biel, Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Walsh and Taye Diggs are all backing Democratic presidential primary candidate Barack Obama, and coming together for the “Los Angeles Generation Obama Concert” next week in Los Angeles, US Weekly reports.

Ah… ugh. Here’s the thing, I love these celebs. Really. Love cute goofy Ryan Reynolds

ryan_reynolds.jpg

… love gorgeous Scarlet Johansson

scarlett.jpg

… and especially love our own Kate Walsh….

kate_walsh.jpg

… and Taye Diggs.

taye_1.jpg

Still, celebs getting press because of how they vote bore me. Why do I care? I don’t even care how my neighbor is going to vote, why would I care how the likes of Jessica freakin Biel is going to vote. She’s purdy…

jessica_biel.jpg

… but that’s about it.

On a related note, Marti Noxon (an executive producer of Private Practice) is putting together a comedy concert sponsored by the Writer’s Guild. Eddie Izzard, Sarah Silverman, and Jack Black will play at Royce Hall (UCLA campus) at 8:00 p.m.

marti.jpgNoxon (pictured here) told the LA Times that the writers on Private Practice (and it’s daddy, Grey’s Anatomy) will pay their assistants (who aren’t in the union) out of their own pockets. Said Noxon:

“Everyone needs to feel writers aren’t just out here on our own fighting for our own issues. Members of all unions are affected by the strike.”

Well said, Marti Noxon, well said.

Kate on View and Preview of Tonite’s Private Practice Eppy

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

New Private Practice tonite… which may be the last one for awhile, if what Kate Walsh said on The View is any indication. It’s hard to tell, given the amount of interrupting those other View hosts do, but it sounds like tonight’s eppy will be the last new one until the writer’s strike ends.

I didn’t get to see Kate on the The View, but I did hear she was great. (As always.) She’s very charming and funny and makes a great guest. Here’s here appearance the last time she was on The View, just after she got married:

Don’t you love how Elizabeth Hasselbeck makes the lame comment “Do you know anyone that has an open marriage?” Kate looks at her like she’s nuts.

Anywho, tonight Dell puts up a fight for Naomi. I’m not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, I do not like Sam and Naomi so happily together. They don’t seem like they ever really went together, and also HE LEFT HER so I doubt he’d really want her back so soon. On the other hand, it might be fun to see Naomi and Dell together for a while.

We’ll also get to see more of Cooper and Charlotte doing the nasty. Here’s a clip in case you’ve forgotten:

I have mixed thoughts on this storyline as well. I liked the surprise of having Cooper hook up with Charlotte instead of Violet at the end of the last episode. And I do think it will be majorly awkward in the office when Violet realizes Cooper has DONE IT with the lovely (choke) Dr. King. Seriously, if she were not thin and blonde, would any man want this woman? That voice alone is enough to make you stay away, not to mention the bitchiness factor.

Should be an interesting one. Here’s the preview:

Can’t wait to chat all about it. See ya back here after the eppy.

Still Hot at 40

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

kate_3.jpg

While the rest of us were probably overeating and being thankful this past holiday weekend, Kate Walsh was frolicking on the beach with her new hubby, Alex Young. Check out these pictures – she looks mucho hotto. Are we sure she’s really 40?

pat.jpgIn another note, Patrick Dempsey has told the Toronto Sun that things on the Grey’s Anatomy set are calmer and less dramatic this year. He seems to hint, however, that part of the issue was not only the Isaiah Washington leaving the show, but also Kate Walsh’s parting to start Private Practice. When asked about Kate and the new show he said:

“I think it’s a very awkward situation to find yourself in when someone is going off to a spin-off and it was a difficult year last year for obvious reasons … I think it’s settled now. We don’t discuss it. It’s one of those things, it’s too close to discuss. We’re more concerned with where we’re at with our show and are the characters growing.”

It seems like one of those, “I won’t say anything negative, so I’ll be snarky but quiet” type of statements. I’d heard a rumor that some members of the cast of Grey’s were slightly unhappy with Kate getting the new show because it was understood none of the cast would be spun off.

That may have been true once upon a time (pardon the Enchanted pun), but if a character so obviously seems to stand out, and even perhaps – fails to truly fit in on another popular medical drama – maybe the character should get their own show. Especially if the character were popular and cool all on her own. Dontcha think?

In case any of us needed convincing, here’s a great video highlighting Addison. It’s set to Tom Jones; “She’s a Lady.”

The Kids of Private Practice

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

amy_b.jpg

We’re talking kids here. Private Practice kids that is.

That seems fitting, given that the show is about babies and reproducing.

Anywho, Amy Brenneman recently told the Bend Weekly News:

“My life changed in every possible way down to my cellular level when Charlotte was born, then heightened when Bodhi came along,” she explained. “I’m now a different person who feels vulnerable for the first time in her life. I’d always been an invincible kind of gal. A friend of mine puts that love for my kids this way: ‘It’s like having your heart walk around outside your body.”

amy_bb.jpgShe also says the Private Practice set is a friendly one for kids and families. (She’s shown with her daughter and husband here.) When asked about coming back to TV, she talks about meeting Tim Daly before on her old show Judging Amy. (But then I’ve already covered that little twist, haven’t I?)

Speaking of kids, newlywed Kate Walsh jokes with People Magazine that she’s pregnant with triplets! (It’s a JOKE folks. She’s a busy woman, with NO TIME to start a family yet.) She says:

“Right now my baby is Private Practice … she is beautiful and strong, growing every week.”

Besides, if they had to write a pregnancy in for Addison right now I think the character would go nuts. Especially after her getting hit on by that hunky cop last week and having to turn him down in order to meet up with Pete. (And then Pete stands her up….ooooh, it’s gonna be an interesting one on Wednesday!)

geo.jpgSpeaking of which, it looks like George Segal will be on an upcoming episode, playing Dell’s (Chris Lowell’s) grandfather. You remember George… he was recently on Just Shoot Me. He’s been nominated for an Oscar… he’s good. Very funny. Now will they write his character as serious or humorous? I’m opting for a little humor. Besides that, I think Dell has a great sense of humor and it would seem only fitting that he gets it from his grandpa.

Picketing with the Stars

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

writers.jpg

Several of the stars from Private Practice marched the picket lines this week in support of the writer’s strike. Amy Brenneman, Paul Adelstein, KaDee Strickland, Kate Walsh, Tim Daly, and Chris Lowell were all seen on the lines.

What do you think about the strike?

The sentiment I’ve heard has generally been positive, as most people informed about what the writers are striking for wholeheartedly support their case. Unlike many Hollywood endeavors that can seem “odd there” and demanding, this issue isn’t one of them. I support the writers, and while I’m bummed that some of our favorite shows may be affected, I understand that striking is a necessary measure.

I did, however, come across a hilariously crabby view on the strike, written as an “Ed-Op” piece by Brett Nolan for The Triangle. His view appears very “young” to me, especially given he mentions The Onion. For example:

Social Security is on the brink of collapse, the dollar is plummeting toward new lows, and Iran is on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons - but at least celebrity writers are showing the nasty entertainment industry who’s boss.

I don’t even think The Onion could have made up a story as asinine as this.

Asinine? What Master Nolan is all snarked up about, I have no idea. Perhaps he’s bummed Chuck might go off the air and he’ll have to study instead. Maybe he doesn’t know that the majority of those writers aren’t the high-paid big wigs (ala our very own Shonda Rhimes, who reportedly takes down roughly $5 million a year) but rather the unknown and lowly paid schmucks that toil away and don’t get the cut the big old bad producers get. That’s incidentally why the bigwig writers ARE striking right along with the unknowns… to bring attention to this cause. And isn’t THAT what a strike represents? The power of many unknowns brought together to battle those in charge?

Merrin Dungey Out, Audra McDonald In

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

merrin.jpgIn viewing the pilot for Private Practice, I was surprised to see that Audra McDonald had replaced Merrin Dungey as the character of Naomi Bennett. I’d become a fan of Dungey’s while seeing her on The King of Queens, although I know she’s also done work on Alias, Malcolm in the Middle, The West Wing, Summerland, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld and Friends, amoung others.

Don’t get me wrong, both are fine actresses, but I really thought Merrin Dungey was a better fit. McDonald, though only a year older than Dungey, appears much older on screen. I cannot picture her married to Taye Diggs’ character nor can I see the character of Dell swooning over her. I can, however, see that with Dungey. More than that, I don’t see a real BFF connection with Kate Walsh’s character and McDonald.

The only thing studio exec’s have said about the switch is that is for “creative reasons.” Which is the same as saying, “We’re not telling.” Here’s a peek at the original credits for Private Practice, showing Dungey in the cast:

Private Practice… Beginnings

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

kate.jpg

Aren’t we all facinated with the idea of starting over? Perhaps that’s why Kate Walsh’s character Addison is such an interesting one to us. She’s not perfect. She’s kinda goofy, can be bitchy, yet also sweet, and through all her tribulations doesn’t it make you think: and this woman is a doctor?

I’ve heard some critics say that the characters on Private Practice don’t seem real because they can get caught up in their daily dramas and act so childish. Well, isn’t that life? I’ve known completely professional people that I’ve respected immensely, only to be a bit shocked to find out how messed up their private lives are.

The key to being happy isn’t just being content with where you are, but finding that place where you can be yourself. If you can find that, the rest will follow. Hopefully that’s what Addison can do.

On that note, I came across a bit more on how Shondra Rhimes came up with Private Practice:

, , , , ,

Oh Baby

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Private Practice is back on tonight, after being bumped because of the 41st Annual CMA’s last week. By the way, did you happen to catch Kate Walsh presenting the award for singer/songwriter:

katecountry2.jpg

She looks very chic, no?

As far as the episode tonight, if the sound bytes I’ve heard are as good as the show, we’ve got a lot to look forward to.

For example:

“You shove that boy back up there and pull out a girl!”

or:

“You kissed me, and then you walked away.”

or:

“We’re not twelve.”

or perhaps the best one:

“I don’t want to be another notch on your acupuncture table.”

Yes I believe that is the winner! Looks like it will be another steamy one, too:

Will Addison and Pete finally hook up? Or will they just drag out this seemingly predictable story line for another few episodes? I mean, it seems a little early to get into this whole thing with the “office romance.” But then, it’s Addison, so… maybe not. (On a separate note, Addy’s dress is very cute in this episode. Dontcha think?)

The talk among the Private Practice boards is that Addison will get a new steamy cop to fawn over. Will this mean she’ll finally be able to get Pete out of her system? Will she finally get a “normal” love life?

But then, what IS normal, anyway?

Also tonight Sam is supposed to make a “dangerous house call.” The previews show him being held up by a gun, so… YA… I’d say that’s pretty dangerous. (Isn’t the whole “baby delivering” thing enough excitement? Apparently not.)

Speaking of which, there will be… not one… not two… but three…. YES, ladies and gentlemen… count ‘em… THREE baby deliveries. A peak:

What I think Shonda Rhimes should do at this point is to REALLY shake things up! Like, kill off one of the Private Practice characters. Or move the focus away from Pete and Addy and have Pete and Charlotte jump in the sack together instead. I mean, those two only want casual sex anyways, so why not?

, CMA’s, ,

About Private Practice

Private Practice is a spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy. Kate Walsh starts as Dr. Addison Montgomery, a surgeon who leaves Seattle (not to mention a broken marriage and messed up relationship) for LA to join a private practice of physicians founded by Naomi and Sam Bennett (Audra McDonald and Taye Diggs). The Bennett’s have formed a unique co-op clinic, including a psychiatrist (Amy Brenneman), pediatrician (Paul Adelstein), alternative medicine specialist (Tim Daly), and a hunky receptionist/surfer boy who is also studying to be a midwife (Chris Lowell). For Addison and her cohorts, their professional lives are solid; it's their private lives that need a little practice.
